KNOX COUNTY, INDIANA

Knox County, Vincennes Indiana Disability Attorneys

Knox County was formed in 1790 and named after Major General Henry Knox, the U.S. Secretary of War.  Knox County was 1 of 2 original counties in Indiana created in the old Northwest Territory in 1790 and was reduced to its prevent size in 1817. The county seat of Vincennes was established the same year.

Vincennes has been home to many famous people.  Richard “Red” Skelton was born July 18, 1913 in Vincennes Indiana.  Skelton was famous for his comedy acts between 1937 and 1971 and was the host of the television program “The Red Skelton Show” as well as an artist known for his clown paintings. In 2006, the town of Vincennes honored Red Skelton with a museum specifically for his art and talent “Red Skelton-Museum of American Comedy”.

William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States (1840) also hails from Vincennes Indiana.  When President Harrison was “Governor of the Indiana Territory” (1800 to 1812) a home, for he and his family, was built in 1804 named “Grouseland”.  The home still stands and is now a museum depicting the life of President Harrison and contains several exhibits and artifacts from the first modern presidential campaign and the Battle of Tippecanoe.
